Baked Apple Chips

Servings:2 to 4

Baking thinly sliced apples produces crisp chips with lovely ruffled edges. They make a beautiful garnish for cakes, sundaes, or other desserts, or are delicious just for snacking out of hand.

  • 1 medium Granny smith apple
  • 2 Tbs. canola oil
  • 1 Tbs. light brown sugar

Preparation

  • Heat the oven to 250°F. Line a heavy-duty baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment.
  • Cut the apple into 1/8-inch-thick slices. In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with the oil to coat evenly. Add the sugar and toss to coat. Arrange the apple slices on the prepared baking sheet so they’re not touching (use a second baking sheet if necessary).
  • Bake until the apples are golden brown, about 45 to 60 minutes (they won’t be fully crisp until they cool). Let cool on the baking sheet to room temperature, then store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
