Welcome to Homegrown/Homemade. I’m a cook who needs some help in the garden andFine Gardening‘sDanielle Sherryis a gardener who needs some help in the kitchen. We’ve teamed up to show gardeners and cooks of all skill levels how get the most out of their crops from seed to plate. In this series, Danielle convinces me that planting and growing onions is well worth the effort, so I’m willing to give it a try. Then, I’ll show Danielle how to cut onions so they’ll cook evenly for a a big batch of caramelized onions and demonstrate an easy appetizer/side dish that really showcases this sweet, robust cooks’ favorite.

Episode One: How to Plant Onions
Onions are notoriously hard to grow, but this year, I’m giving it a try with expert advice fromFine Gardening‘s Danielle Sherry. To start us off, Danielle shares a few farmers’ tricks for growing strong, more disease-resistant plants. Now, if my onions prove Juno-resistant as well, we’ll be roasting onions in no time.
