Start Valentine's Day on a sweet note with a decadent breakfast in bed, starring chocolatey French toast with fresh berries, extra-crisp bacon and a champagne cocktail.

Surprise your beloved with a sweet and special breakfast in bed. A half an hour is all you need to wake themup with warm, chocolatey French toast topped with fresh raspberries and strawberries, perfectly crisped bacon, and a sparkling cranberry-orange cocktail.

Menu Timeline

The night before:

  • Put a bottle of champagne or sparkling wine in the refrigerator to chill.

30 minutes before breakfast:

  • Make the milk & egg mixture for the French toast and soak the bread.
  • Squeeze the orange juice for the champagne cocktail, combine with the cranberry juice and refrigerate.

15 minutes before eating:

  • Cook the French toast.
  • Cook the bacon.

Just before serving:

  • Assemble champagne cocktails.
  • Garnish the French toast with confectioner’s sugar & berries.

Shopping List

Fresh Produce:

  • 2-3 large oranges
  • Fresh raspberries and strawberries for garnish

Meat, Eggs & Dairy:

  • 4-6 slices bacon
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 4 Tbs. unsalted butter

Other Groceries:

  • 1 loaf challah bread
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (natural or Dutch-processed)
  • Confectioners’ sugar, for garnish
  • 1/2 cup cranberry juice cocktail
  • 1 bottle brut sparkling wine

  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/8 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • Table salt
